Hey everyone, thank you so much for coming to another edition of Anime Recipes. In case you are new to this series from Honey’s Anime, we explore the food that anime shows us and breaks down how to make them. With over 60 shows airing each season, it is no surprise that there are so many things that we are more than ready to cook up a storm for. We found one more final recipe from everyone’s favorite food porn anime Isekai Shokudou!
Normally desserts are something that are very commonplace in anime. A roll cake, some cookies, a slice of cheesecake and more are some of the common dishes that appear. For this installation though, we thought that we would tackle one of the most iconic Japanese sweets that Japanese people love. Walk into any grocery store, any conbini, and any restaurant, no matter how classy of an establishment that it may be, and you will find Pudding on the menu. But no, this is not like western pudding. But rather, this is a cousin to the Latin American and Spanish dessert, flan.
Technically, what Victoria receives is pudding a la mode, but since that is simply just pudding surrounded by various sweets, fruits, and whipped cream, we will be focusing on the core ingredient, pudding. Sweet and refreshing, this is a dessert that you will want to enjoy year-round! Just be sure to make it properly. Let’s go!
What You Will Need:
Optional Notes:
Like we said, we are focusing on the pudding part of the recipe for pudding a la mode. If you are wanting the full dish, then we suggest cutting up fresh fruit like a pineapple ring or two, a pear, an apple etc. Then if you want to add in more, a few dollops of whipped cream will do the job as well. If you do go the full route though, you should definitely share this with someone! You definitely don’t want all these calories at once.
How to Cook It:
- Let’s start with the ingredients marked with the (☆). These are actually to make the caramelized part of the pudding. In a frying pan, put in the sugar and water marked with the (☆) and begin to caramelize it on medium heat.
- Once it has reached a nice dark brown color, take it off of the heat and pour it very carefully into whatever cups or jars you are using. The more you have, the more often you can let yourself enjoy this sweet treat in doses!
- While the caramel is cooling and hardening, start to heat up your milk and other sugar, the ones without the (☆), in a frying pan being very careful not to boil it. Low heat is recommended. Keep cooking until the sugar has dissolved. The liquid should turn a slight brown color. Once there, cut the heat.
- Beat your eggs together and add in two tablespoons of the milk-sugar mixture from the frying pan. This is where you can add in your vanilla essence if you have it.
- Once this is done, add this into whatever is left in the frying pan via a sift to catch any residual items and to ensure smoothness.
- Very gently, pour this into the cups or jars that you poured the caramel into. With the backside of a spoon, smooth out the tops gently.
- Now comes the baking part. Place the jars or cups in a pie dish, or oven safe dish, and flood the dish with water. Then, bake at 180C (350F) for 40-45 minutes.
- Once they have turned golden-brown, you are good to go.
- Once they have cooled, we recommend that you chill them for a few hours and then dig in!
(Note: Please be very careful when touching anything with this recipe. While you do cook them, raw eggs can make you very ill if you are not careful. Wash your hands and utensils thoroughly after making this.)
Yum!
