Is this is a retelling or a new anime in an alternate universe? And if I recall correctly, it was supposed to be last summer, and then last fall. Finally, it"s debuting.
Apparently the first episode of this series is episode 27 of the original anime with an alternate ending. Then this original soccer/football anime begins. So it"s set in an alternate universe.
Sports anime are on fire this season. Inazuma Eleven, Gurazeni, Major 2nd.... There are so many sports anime.
It"s safe to say that fans of the classic series will have no issue geting into this new series while new fans should be able to pick this up no problem.
