In Kyoto, there is an ordinary bar called Izakaya Nobu that has a big secret. Inside of Izakaya Nobu lies a door that connects the bar to a whole new world. This door allows the citizens of this new to the world to experience the food of Japan as their troubles melt away. Staffed by only by chef Nobuyuki Yazawa, and server, Shinobu Senke, Izakaya Nobu provides a unique experience for everyone who visits.
1. The Lighthearted Story
The story of Isekai Izakaya Nobu is lighthearted and quite soothing. Each episode focuses on a different person or group of people coming into Izakaya Nobu and experiences the food and atmosphere of the bar. Watching as the various characters come into the bar skeptical and leave with amazement is one of the best parts of Isekai Izakaya Nobu.
2. The Food
With Isekai Izakaya Nobu being centered around people eating food, the anime needed to deliver with some amazing looking food and it went above and beyond what would be expected, bringing a new dish each episode that looks more delicious than the last. No matter what Yazawa is asked to make, the food is always visually pleasing and impresses the customers. Watching as the characters dive into the amazing looking food makes you want to grab a plate a join them.
3. NobuPlus
At the end of each episode is a live action segment called NobuPlus. In this segment, real chefs make the food featured in the episode. Seeing the food in the show made in real life is interesting and adds an additional reason to watch the show if you are interested in trying out any of the delicious looking food featured in Isekai Izakaya Nobu.
1. The Repetitiveness
Each episode of Isekai Izakaya Nobu is mostly the same. A new character will come into Izakaya Nobu and will be skeptical of Yazawa"s ability to give them an amazing meal. Yazawa will then prepare them the dish of the episode and blow away their expectations and they will leave satisfied. While a few episodes deviate from this formula, they are mostly the same and, if you have seen one episode, you have basically seen them all. If you are not interested in seeing different foods and the little stories of the customers’ lives and their enjoyment of the food, there isn"t much story here for you to enjoy.
2. Short Episodes
A typical episode of Isekai Izakaya Nobu clocks in around fifteen minutes, but once you take out the NobuPlus segment, the actual anime portion of each episode is around ten minutes. The short length is the main cause of many of the anime"s shortcomings as it is forced to shove every part of its episodic story into ten minutes. While being shorter, this anime isn"t inherently bad; it causes Isekai Izakaya Nobu to not be able to accomplish as much as some of the other shows in the same genre.
Isekai Izakaya Nobu has a lot going for it if you are a lover of food. With impressive looking anime food and little lessons on how to cook the food, Isekai Izakaya Nobu is able to give you a unique experience that no other food-based anime has captured before. However, if you are looking for a deep story with a lot of great characters, you will be disappointed.
